We're a clothing brand. So selling more <\/em>clothes must be our mission, right? Wrong. We want you to shop sustainably and responsibly, yes, but to stop so many clothes ending up in landfill we want you to look after your garments too - whether you bought them from us or not. Not only will this save the environment<\/a>, it'll save you money and you'll get more wear out of your favourites. Here are my top tips:<\/p>

Buy quality<\/h2>

Make sure the clothes you buy are made to last. Fast fashion has given us cheap but poor quality clothing, meant to be disposed after a few wears. It's much better to buy a few key pieces that will last you a long time. TABBY.FIREFLY's clothes<\/a> are made from 100% organic cotton and get better with every wear.<\/p>

Go through your clothes regularly to remind yourself what you've got. That'll mean you'll be less tempted to buy something cheap on the spur of the moment - there's likely to be something lurking that you've completely forgotten about!<\/p>

Store like a boss<\/h2>

Jumpers should be folded on a shelf to stop them stretching. Use wooden hangers for your other clothes - not only do they support your garments, they're better for the environment too. Store your shoes and bags in boxes or dustbags - or even old pillowcases for a no-waste option. Use discarded packaging to stuff shoes and bags too, this'll help them keep their shape.<\/p>

Don't hang too much on your wardrobe rail as this can crease or damage your clothes - give them room to breath. Most importantly, make sure everything is stored in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. No one wants moldy or faded clothes. I use low-energy dehumidifier in my wardrobe in the winter.<\/p>

Wash responsibly<\/h2>

Washing can have a big impact on how your clothes last. First and foremost, wash them less. Unless your clothes are smelly or visibly dirty, you can wear them several times before washing them (undies excluded!).<\/p>

Reading the label may sound a bit obvious but how many times have you mindlessly shoved a pile of laundry in the machine without separating things out? Following the instructions will help protect the garment, especially if it's delicate. This applies to ironing too!<\/p>

Zip up zips before putting them in the drum. Wash your denim, printed tees<\/a> and dark colours inside out. Overfilling your washing machine will mean that clothes don't wash properly - even though it seems like it's saving on loads. Air dry your clothes as much as possible. Choose a detergent that's free from chemicals and better for the environment; I use the EcoEgg Laundry Egg<\/a> which uses natural mineral pellets.<\/p>

Make do and mend<\/h2>

Wear and tear happens, so learn some basic mending skills. I must admit, this is one of my weaker areas, so I've consulted the brilliant advice from Fast Fashion Therapy<\/a>. They have loads of 'how to' videos and blogs. Not keen on an item anymore, even though the fit is good? Think about re-purposing it (Iron-on patches? Cut-off jean shorts?) You can easily revive garments with low-impact clothes dye, too.<\/p>

Odd socks? Who cares? You'll be making a sustainable fashion statement (or if you really can't bear them to be on display, keep them for use under boots in the winter).<\/p>
